Summer Camp Instructor - Internship
Description: Lead week long summer camps for children ages 4-12 using a set curriculum and education animals within the Jackson Zoo.
Responsibilities include:
- Instruct children about wildlife conservation using set curriculum both in a classroom and on zoo grounds
- Properly handle live animals and artifacts in our education department
- Set up and clean up of camp classroom
- Teach full and half day camp
Qualifications:
- Ability to teach children ages 4 - 12
- Teaching experience is a plus
- Background in animal and wildlife sciences
- Passionate about wildlife
- Friendly, outgoing and excellent communication skills
- Must be a team player and able to instruct alone and/or with others
- Ability to walk 2 miles, stand for long periods of time and carry 30 pounds.
Guidelines:
- Available to teach weeklong camps throughout the month of June and July (6 total weeks)
- Available to attend a two day training prior to the camp start date

Social Media Intern:
Description: will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence and getting visibility for the Jackson Zoo. The intern will assist and work closely with the Director of Development and PR.
Responsibilities include: Aggregate and/or create article and video content
- Communicate exciting social media news (internal and external)
- Update mobile website and add additional content
- Schedule video interviews with guests and keepers
- Distribute content to various websites
- Monitor and engage on various social media platforms
- Update website, as needed
- Track website statistics
- Perform above tasks and others for projects
Qualifications: Familiar with Twitter, Facebook, WordPress and YouTube
- Passionate about Social Media
- Friendly and conversational
- Must be detail oriented, team player and technologically savvy
- Must be comfortable with computers, software editing, video cameras
Guidelines: Estimated weekly hours are 10-20 hours per week
- Minimum 3-month (semester) commitment
- Intern can work remotely, on his/her own computer
- Up to two interns at a time

Education Animal Care Intern
Description: Will provide animal care and perform husbandry training tasks to a large collection of exotic and domesticate animals within the education department.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide daily care to all education animals
- Keep accurate records for all education animals
- Perform husbandry training
- Provide enrichments for animals
- Interact with guests using education animals
Qualifications:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and carry 20 pounds
- Willing to work hands on with an exotic and domestic animal collection
- Background in animal and wildlife sciences
- Passionate about wildlife
Guidelines:
- 4 month (semester) commitment
- Work Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and one Saturday a month
