Breakfast with the Animals-July 12th

Momma always said “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. It will be a wild morning at the Jackson Zoo when you get to “eat with the elephants” or have “coffee with the cats”.

Breakfast with the Animals allows you to have the opportunity to watch the feeding habits and enrichment activities of some of the world’s most wondrous creatures and enjoy breakfast treats too!

This unique experience is designed to provide interesting educational messages for the public in an intimate setting.  This month we are focusing on the African elephants.

Breakfast will be served from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. while supplies last.

Breakfast treats included with regular admission.  Friends of the Jackson Zoo get in free!

14th Annual Ice Cream Safari-July 19th

The Jackson Zoo is gearing up for the coolest event of the year! The fourteenth annual ICE CREAM SAFARI will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 11am-2pm. There will be more than a dozen delicious flavors of Schwan's Ice Cream available for visitors to try-rain or shine!

Local television, radio and print media celebrities will be scooping up the delectable ice cream flavors and all visitors are asked to vote for their favorite flavor as well as favorite celebrity scooper. Ice Cream Safari passes, allowing visitors samplings, may be purchased for $1 per person in addition to regular zoo admission. Friends of the Zoo receive free admission but will need to purchase an Ice Cream Safari pass.

Other activities include an appearance by Inky the Clown, Face Painting, Coloring Table, Space Jump, Keeper Chats and more!

MS Improv Alliance Summer Sunday Series -July 27th

The Jackson Zoo is pleased to be apart of the Mississippi Improvisation Alliance Summer Sunday Series.

This is an annual seasonal presentation of free improvisation. The improvisation-based nature of the event, rather than a practiced performance-based presentation, grants the audience a window into the creative process of the artists as they communicate with each other and the audience in real-time composition.Through the free improvisation performances we seek to highlight awareness of the present moment and promote genuine, creative communication in that moment. We bring together a variety of seasoned musicians and dancers, some whom have never met and others who are familiar, in venues which appeal to a diverse selection of Jacksonians in order to use the arts to encourage more focused and diverse living. Each performance consists of 2 - roughly 45 minute free improvisations.
