ZOOmobile

When you can’t come to the Zoo, have the Zoo visit you!  Zoo Educators bring live animals and biofacts to your school or organization to give your students a chance to meet them up close.  This program has three formats, a classroom experience, an auditorium option, and a special event option.

Classroom Experience

Here the educator visits your class for a one hour intimate small group presentation.  In this format, students will get close and have an opportunity to study the animals in a hands on manner.  Minimum 15 – Maximum 30 students.

Auditorium Experience

This option is great for whole school assemblies.  Here the educator presents on a stage or in an auditorium with animals, audio visuals and biofacts to engage the audience.  This one hour program is offered for 31 – 100 students.  Very limited to no animal contact is included in this program.

Special Event Experience

Invite the Jackson Zoo to your next special event.  Educators bring live animals and biofacts to set up on a table for two hours to engage walkby audiences in nature exploration.  This option is only offered for special public events, and is not appropriate for school audiences during regular school hours.  No presentation is included in this option.

Days & Times

Zoo Mobile is available Monday – Friday.  Programs must be registered at least 2 weeks in advance.  For the health of our animals, ZooMobile does not travel during the months ofJuly and August.

Topics

Classroom and Auditorium Experience Themes:

Animal Senses (suitable for Preschool, Kindergarten and special needs groups)

How does a snake feel?  What does a turtle look like up close?  How do animals use their sense of smell?  Students use sight, smell, touch and sound to explore animals and compare human senses to those of the animals presented.

Animals in Action (suitable for K – 3rd grade students)

Ever thought about how a snake with no legs gets around in its environment? Students will observe and learn about animal movement and locomotion in different kinds of animals. This program will engage students in comparing the ways people move to the many different ways animals move.

Wildlife Conservation (suitable for 4th – 6th grade students)

What does it mean to be rare or endangered? How do animals become endangered? This program will introduce students to rare animals from around the world and discuss how their wild populations have become endangered.  Each rare animal has a different reason for being threatened and a unique story to tell. Students will learn how animals become endangered and how zoos, scientists, and concerned citizens are working to help rare and endangered species.

Zoo Careers (suitable for Middle and High School students)

Wonder what it’s like to work at the zoo? This program teaches students about the careers available in Zoos and Aquariums, and how keepers and other staff take care of the animals and exhibits.  Students will also discuss the education and experience needed to start a zoo career. At the end of the program, a zoo animal will make a special appearance to help students understand how much work goes into animal care at the zoo.
